The BMC OA policy allows for open access posting of the text of scholarly articles to the college's open access repository. This policy is separate from the read-and-publish agreements listed here.
BMC Faculty authors who publish articles in some journals can make their articles immediately open access through the journal sites, without paying an APC (article processing charge). LITS subscriptions to these journals are now "read and publish agreements" (also called "transformative agreements"), which help to shift library subscription payments toward support for open access publishing by waiving APCs.
For other publishers, you can still make your scholarship open access without paying APCs. The Bryn Mawr Faculty Open Access Policy allows you to make any article open access through the BMC open access institutional repository. See below, under Bryn Mawr Open Access Policy.
LITS has read and publish agreements with the publishers below.
Bryn Mawr authors who publish in any ACS journal can automatically make any article open access. This agreement is made available because of our membership in PALCI (provider of EZBorrow).
Authors will receive a link to Journal Publishing Agreement by email. Choose "Yes, I wish to publish open access as per the agreement." Your request will automatically be approved with no payment required.
Through a TriCo agreement, Bryn Mawr faculty authors who publish in CUP journals should follow these instructions to make their articles open access. Rightslink (which processes APCs) is set up to automatically approve, without payment, any Bryn Mawr faculty who are corresponding authors for their articles.
Company of Biologists Journals: Bryn Mawr faculty corresponding authors can publish open access with no APCs in three journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science, and Journal of Experimental Biology. See instructions here.
Corresponding authors at Bryn Mawr have the OA fee waived for hybrid journals through an arrangement with the Lyrasis consortium.
Find a full guide for authors here. A spreadsheet of eligible journals can be found here.
*Note that this agreement does not provide waivers for article processing charges for Springer Nature fully OA journals. These journals require individual APCs be paid by the author.
